Sistine Chapel Inspired Cupboard

We challenged Lel at Made By Marley to come up with one of her art pieces using the IOD Heavenly stamp. She didn’t disappoint. She dove deep down and channeled her inner Michelangelo and brought us this Sistine Chapel Inspired Cupboard.

Our favorite part of the cupboard is how she used the stamps to create a hand-painted look without needing the hand-painted talent…though she probably has it.

First Lel gave the majority of the cupboard a couple of layers of paint in a combination of red, grey brown, and a primer-red.

To get similar colors, in DIY Paint I would use Marquee and Prairie Grey and then mixed the two to achieve the third color.

To get similar colors in Sweet Pickins Milk Paint, I’d use Red Wagon and Suitcase.

Lel then took a navy blue and painted the outside edges of the inner panels of her cupboard doors. Try Hey Sailor or Navy Blues.

She then blended a lighter blue from the center out. Try Prom Queen or Moody Blue.

Lel then left the elements of her Heavenly stamp attached to their backing and cut them apart from one another.

After some experimenting with how the trumpets would overlap the frames of the cupboard doors, Lel stamped the opposing angels on each door.

Lel then painted in the angels skin, clothing, wings and instruments. It wasn’t necessary to worry too much about the details because the final stamp will bring them back.

After adding some clouds Lel went back in and stamped over the paint to bring back the detail lost when painting over the first imprint.
